Wrap Up: December 2021

Hello readers and welcome to the last wrap-up of 2021!

Have you received some books for Christmas? I have received from myself (XD) some new books, you can find them on my Instagram page.

Mid-December I finally hit my goal for the Goodreads challenge, and I’ve finished the year with a total of 135 books read.

In December I’ve read a total of 13 books, no DNF!

5 stars:

Finally, 3 books in a month have received 5 stars: The selkie scandal is a lovely prequel/spin-off to The Lady Jewel diviner series, where we can enjoy the company of Jaq and Lord Beresford, and his jam, of course; Caos sotto il vischio (The lady’s guide to mistletoe and mayhem) is a lovely historical romance set in Scotland, full of laughter, kisses and a happy ending; Santa Inc. was a surprise since it’s really underrated but is a perfect story for Christmas, full of hope and the magic of Christmas.

4 stars:

Another surprise this month was Grace’s ghost, a heartwarming story about a lonely girl who befriend the ghost of her town.

Snowspelled has a beautiful cover, an intelligent and strong female MC, elves and romance.

3 stars:

The case of the missing hippo and Tiny T.rex and the impossible hug are 2 children/middle-grade books that all children would love. Look how cute and colourful are the covers!

Champagne widows is a historical fiction about Veuve Cliquot, the widow who has “invented” and commercialized the brand of champagne Veuve Cliquot. Really interesting if you like champagne and French history.

2 stars:

Nessie and all the water “monsters” are my favorite cryptid, and that’s why By the silver water of Lake Champlain has received 2 stars and not only one, because the story is inconclusive.

The cover of Mrs. Claus and the Santaland Slayings is totally festive and Christmassy, but I didn’t like the treatment received by Mrs. Claus by her husband’s family. They’re all mean.

I really liked the middle part of Moo, but not the beginning or the ending.

1 star:

Hello, it’s always me, not liking a super loved and hyped book like A dowry of blood. But I love the cover.

The main reason for the 1-star rating of The legend of the pumpkin thief is that is printed very poorly, I can’t comprehend how they (book depository) can sell a book like this. It’s missing a word on the cover too!!

And that’s all, I wish all of you a Happy New Year, full of beautiful books and adventures, see you again in a couple of days with the best and the worst of 2021!

Wrap Up: December 2020

Hello readers and Happy New Year!

Today I will show you the books I’ve read in December, the next days I will post the best and the worst of the past year.

In December I’ve read a total of 11 books! I’ve completed my Goodreads reading challenge of 120 books, even surpassed it by 10 books, for a total of 130!

Here’s my December reading month:

5 Stars:

Murder in the crypt is the first volume in the historical crime fiction series featuring Captain Redmond and Constable Haze. I’ve loved every single word of it!

Agente 00 Miao Missione Natale is a cute novella featuring Venceslao, the beautiful black cat on the cover. Perfect Christmas reading!

4 stars:

The gift of the animals is a lovely picture book with charming illustrations.

Looking for Winston is the fourth volume in the Adventures of Sophie Mouse, this series is so incredibly cute!

3 stars:

More weird things customers say in bookshops: I just want to express my sympathy to all the booksellers out there who need to deal with these kind of customers.

Gnome for Christmas: I’ve read a lot of Christmas books thanks to the #Christmasathon I’ve participated on Twitter. The cover is lovely, and it’s a cozy mystery full of delicious foods!!

I received a copy of Esme’s wish through Booksirens. Great world-building and funny side characters!

2 stars:

The time travelers has a catch eye cover, but I didn’t like the manners of the two main characters, particularly when they are in the past.

Wintersong has a great prose and it’s perfect for this time of the year, but the romance was… not my cup of tea.

1 star:

I didn’t understand the genre of Il segreto del vicolo della serpe (sorry, it’s not translated!): it was a contemporary, a mystery, a romance? I was confused.

Now I understand that I don’t like books written or set in the North of Europe, and this is not exception. The main character is just… stupid most of the times? Yeah, no thanks.

And this was my reading month, how about yours??

Tell me in the comments!

Wrap up: December 2019

Hello readers and Happy New Year!

How was your reading month?

I managed to read 11 books on December, without DNF! It’s a miracle, I know.

What was the last book you’ve read in 2019? Mine was a non-fiction book about murders, so typically me.

As usual, I will include the books that I’ve read in Italian, with the title translated, if possible.

5 Stars:

3 books with 5 stars? How this is even possible? The magic of Christmas, I suppose.

The electrical menagerie is so beautiful! I can’t even describe how much I’ve loved it. Go and read it, it’s so underrated!

Arbrook Huxley and the miraculous confection: we are lucky, because the author of The Electrical Menagerie has written a couple of short stories!

The cure for dreaming is another great historical/gothic book written by Cat Winters. For me, she’s the queen of these books genres.

4 stars:

Another short story from the universe of The celestial isles! A celestial quartet shows us a little more about the characters of The electrical menagerie, and it’s free on the author’s site!

The audiobook version of Mary Poppins is a lovely company during the Christmas holidays! I really enjoy it.

3 stars:

Ah, always the special snowflake syndrome! Something that never change, right? Snow like ashes has a beautiful cover, but it was pretty flat for me.

The bank holiday murders is my last book of 2019: a non-fiction book about murders occurs in Whitechapel just before Jack The Ripper began to strike.

2 stars:

The catacombs was a little better than the other two in the series (Suicide forest/island of the dolls), but the plot is basically the same. Also, the main culprit is always the same kind ofย  “creature”.

I’ve read dozens of yaoi fanfictions with a better plot and better s*x scenes of The magpie lord. Totally not impressed, I won’t finish this series.

1 star:

The only 1 star book is a book about Christmas. Unholy night (that’s the original title) was funny only when Mary or her husband are involved. So, for me, that’s the last book written by Grahame Smith that I read in my life.

December 2018 Wrap Up

Hello everyone! I’m here for the classic wrap up of the month, and I promised you that in the first days of January I will write the Best and The worst books of 2018. I usually write it in the new year, so I can include all the books I’ve read.

In december I read 7 books, 4 in Italian.

That are 2 best books this month, one Italian and one English: L’uomo che odiava Sherlock Holmes (The Sherlockian) and Clockwork Alchemist.

I also finished the nearly 500 pages of The Sinner. And it wasn’t as good as the Tv show.

Don’t eat the glowing bananas: well… it’s weird sci-fi, and it’s a genre that I didn’t like. But I like the cover. 2 stars

Clockwork Alchemist: I love a good old steampunk book. This book has not a great background, but the characters are so lovely. 5 stars.

A time traveller’s best friend: it’s sci-fi and I can’t relate to the characters. The chapters also seems disjointed. 2 stars.

I wish a Happy New Year to all of you!!
