Wrap up: August 2019

Hello again readers!

Only a couple of days are passed since I posted my Wrap Up of July, and here we are for the recap of my August readings!

In August I read a total of 11 books: one DNF, one very short graphic novel and 2 books in Italian. I finally finish Il regno dei lupi/La regina dei draghi, the Italian translation of A clash of kings, by George R. R. Martin.

4 stars:

I’m a great fan of Steampunk, and this number 0 of Lady Mechanika has some awesome illustrations.

3 stars:

An enchantment of ravens has a beautiful cover, and I’ve appreciated that the MC is a painter, but I was not really involved in the love story.

Things half in shadow has an absolutely lovely (for me) female side character, the setting is really interesting and I’ve learned a thing or two about Victorian grief, but it sounds like the first book in a series… when it’s a stand-alone.

Slayed is an urban fantasy that involves the Van Helsing and the Harker family. The duo of friends Kiki/Daphne is so funny!

2 stars:

Steampunk Fairy Tales is a collection of stories inspired by famous fairy tales, with a steampunk touch. All of them seems unfinished to me.

The testament of Gideon Mack is a strange book: the part with the Devil is incredible, but everything else is soooo boring.

Look, an unpopular opinion… again. I’m sorry, but I found this book really disrespectful.

1 star/DNF:

A whole new world, a retelling of Aladdin is just… bad written. I don’t have much else to say.

The Orion Rezner chronicles have tricked me: I received it through Instafreebie, and I thought it was a fantasy, but in fact is a strange book set in the future with a gruesome and bloody exorcism in the beginning, that’s why I did not finish it.

And that’s my reading month!

How was yours? Did you read something great?
